background avi

hello,

so i want to render a background avi, the same one I have displayed in the workspace via an animated texture. When I use an avi in the “backbuf” file selector it says on rendering that the file type is unknown. i have tried this with uncompressed and compressed avi’s.

Right now i am using the sequencer to alpha over the blender scence over an avi but this seems twice as much effort as it should be.

So is it possible to render the video that i use for compositing?

thanks all.

Hi!!!

That’s strange, cause Blender is supposed to work this way with uncompressed avi’s (allthough that’s the only it’s gonna work…).

Check this tut and see if you are doing something wrong…

Hi Skontar,

Thanks for the reply and the tutorial link. I can do everything it suggests, but is also says, “To properly use this technique in video, you’ll need to…Render your animation to a series of RGBATGAs, and 3) Put them together with the video in a compositing program.”

i’d still like to render a composited blender scene all in blender.
it seems i used to be able to do this.

thanks again,

on.

2.25 also supports all the codec installed on your comp, not just for writing but also for reading.

I’m using 2.25 and I experience this problem too. It seems that if I reload an AVI regardless of what codec it’s in within UV textures the CLI complains of an ‘Unknown fileformat’. Currently I can’t use Uncompressed AVIs or Divx ;-). I still can use Divx 5 but I now feel tentative about using it.

By “in the UV textures” do you mean the Image window? You can only load still pictures there, not AVI files. Loading AVI files can only be done in the texture window, when setting an Image texture.
