Background render on Mac

Hi, is it possible to render in the background on a Mac? I’ve tried the command line rendering but that seems to prevent me from opening Blender while it is rendering. Could I just duplicate the Blender App and open it twice, maybe?

Exactly what happens when you try to “open it twice?”

If I understand correctly, you are hoping to start a rendering job, and while it is rendering, you want to continue editing your .blend file, is that right? If so, I don’t think that is possible - I think the data gets “locked” while rendering. I might be wrong, but I’ve never heard of anyone doing it the way you are hoping to.

I’ve managed to work out how I can launch a second instance of Blender on a Mac using the Terminal. This allows me to make a copy of my project, start rendering it in the background and continue to work on my original file.
