backside transparency

When we set a face to be single side, why is it rendered when we look at it from the back? It seems it only ffect lightning.
Is it possible to make it transparent when looked from the back?

(my real issue is that when I use alpha texturing on a mesh, I don’t want to see the interior of the mesh:) )

thanks guys!

Unfortunately Blender doesn’t support backface culling at the moment. I would find this valuable as well.

it looks like you can map a colorband-ed blend to the alpha mapped using normal coordinates to get the same effect if you turn on “No VNormal Flip” in the edit buttons

… I should’ve thought of that before, it makes complete sense

Could you post a blend? I get either transparency on both sides or all black. The colorband blend is black and white?

Look, a new material for the library! Thank you. Very clever stuff. I’ve applied to a new object, moved the camera, added another texture, still good to go. Hum. Looks like the Cornel box has a new lease on life in blender.
