Hello,
I’ve attached a picture of my ‘bad bake’. I’m pretty new to Blender.
I have ambient occlusion and really simple color materials applied. I am baking full render with margins as high as I can get them (2.49b version) and I am getting the dark lines at the edges of the mesh triangles. How can I fix this??
Your help would be very appreciated!!
could you post a screenshot of your unwrap?
See what happens if you increase the AO samples. Also do you have Set Smooth turned on?
Also make very sure that the geometry, in those areas, is “clean.” Remove doubles, look for overlapping faces or faces that protrude through one another. Look for overlapping polygons in the UV map. Things like that.
Could also try increasing the margin of the bake itself. I would suggest thought marking the seams more logically.
You could probably get away with projection mapping much of the main structure, which would get rid of at least some of the isolated triangles in the map. But I agree that cleaning up the mesh makes a lot of sense.
weird double post
will try AO samples, nope don’t have set smooth on.
These are all solids imported as .stls from autocad, therefore I have little control over the creation of the mesh. when .stls are imported, will it make triangles of the mesh overlap?
also what do you mean by “marking the seams”? I just do a uv unwrap and use what it gives me to then bake the render. Am I missing a step??
Thanks for replying!!
Yes, you mark the seams. The seams are the boundaries of where it’s okay to cut the textures. So you would want where the walls meet. Select an edge in edit mode and CTRL+E->Mark Seam. Now when you unwrap they will be cut where you marked. Right now it looks like you have unwrapped using smart projections. No need to change the mesh per-say (unless there are doubles).
Short an easy explanation/tutorial. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_8OV92HLPY
Using seams will fix this problem.
Hey thanks everyone for the help. As far as the marking the seams goes… I’ve got a lot of seams. I mean a lot… Is there any shortcut around this? It is taking forever.
Thanks again for all the help,
Leah
