Baked normal map coming out stronger than expected

When I bake my bump map it comes out way too strong. I have the image set to non color, lowered the strength before baking multiple times even down to 0.100, turning up the render samples, but still no luck. Using blender 4.1. Image Size is 8k Top Image is what I want it to look like when baked, Bottom is when I finish baking.

Is this an object space normal map? Or tangent space? Looks an awful lot like an object space map to me. Bump nodes are probably expecting a Tangent space map.

Object Space vs Tangent Space Normal Map:

Also you have the color info (RGB) from your map plugged into the Height input (Grayscale/Float).

Also if you have an actual normal map then you just plug that into a Normal Map node then into the normal input of your shader. Bump nodes are generally what you’d use if you have a grayscale map and want to convert it into a pseudo normal map in the shader.

Looks like the normal map node does have the ability to switch between tangent and object space so you can see if that helps if it still looks weird. If you’re going into a game engine you’re gonna want to get it into Tangent space ultimately, but if you’re sticking in Blender and it doesn’t interfere with your workflow then I guess you could keep it in Object space.
