I would like to bake cloth sims to shape keys, but don’t know a good way.
While I’m here, might as well ask, is there any way to take different objects with the same vertex information and turn it into an absolute or relative shape key? Like, if I duplicated an object, and sculpted it.
One way is to export the animation as a .mdd file. Select the object that has cloth animation and export. Import into the same mesh without a cloth mod with the import .mdd. When importing is turns the animation data into shape keys.
It only worked when the cloth modifier was left attached but the bake freed. Weird.
When I edit anything in the object, it jumps back to original point, ie moving the object, adding a modifier changing shape keys, etc.
The shape keys were left, but they were all duplicates of the original shape.
I’m using Blender 2.49b, main build (not a branch or anything). Perhaps this works better with version 2.5?
Hard to say without knowing more about what you are trying to do exactly. When using this feature I was using 2.49 and I have not tried this in 2.5 yet.
So anyways, what is it you are trying to do exactly?
