I was wondering. if I wanted to do a clay or ambient render. when I have hole inside a mesh with good topology basically a inset and then there is screws or bolts. how come baking doesn’t inset the hole where the screw is? I think I could get away with it if textured but for normal maps the hole is filled in and you can see the screw/bolt but not the inset or hole
A normal map shows the difference in face normals, it does not show depth. If the faces have the same normal direction the normal map will not have anything to show

so basically do i click on the top mesh and reverse the normal? to be able to see the hole in the normal map? I am trying to learn baking so i can make things like this but be able to bake it and apply it to a plane or module environment with details like this. so I am practicing with a bolt inside a blank. thank you very much for your time.
