Hi guys, I know this one doesn’t have much done on it yet, but I wanted to go ahead and post to increase my chances of finishing. It basically is one of those things where you punch out all of the little pieces, and stick them toghtether, and ‘poof’ there is a brachiosaurus. C&C is welcome, and so is random comments about porridge and frogs.
Are you plannning to constuct a bronto with the pieces or just have a scene with the pieces scattered on a table top? Good start so far.
my personal opionions on porridge are taht it is stereotyped as a bland grey mush when in reallity there are many types that are quite good…
about he model, interesting idea, are you going to make a ton of the pieces, and then jsut construct random models? Like making a blend with lego pieces, and using them to make lego stuff?
Hi guys!
Khnum: I am planning on making a full brachiosaurus with these pieces, although maybe it will be half finished with the rest of the pieces beside it…
JellyWerker: I agree totally about the porridge; about the model, I actually bought one of the things (a brachiosaurus), and scanned in the four pages of pieces. I am now slowly tracing them and after i have traced them all, I plan to construct it according to the directions (if i can ever read them, hehee)
Thank you both for your replies, it reminds me that i’m not quite dead yet!
anything for a super leet jewish haxor
Hi guys!
Yep, that’s me, ~super leet jewish haxor~
Anyways, I worked on it for 75 minutes more, and here’s what i’ve got so far:
Remember, this is only page 1 out of four, hoo-boy. Wish me luck, fellow porridge eating jews!
btw, isn’t it kinda funny how the color fits in perfectly with the forum’s back color?
Wow that brings back memories!
I made one of those in another program years ago.
I scanned the piece of wood before I punched out the bones and mapped that image to the pieces, turned out pretty good
I think mine was a T-rex, can’t wait to see yours!
Very Small Update:
Ok, I started work on the second sheet, after putting it off for a few hours… ( I still haven’t been working on this for 24 hours yet!) and it is comming along swimmingly. I’m going to change the title of this thread to something more serious than ‘Balsa Wood Thingie’ though…
btw, for all the slower people, this is the second sheet. The first sheet is still there, just not displayed. C&C wanted, even though there isn’t much to say about cut out balsa wood.
btw btw, If anyone has a good Balsa Wood Texture, please share it with me, cause if you look at my most recent update, there is is in big white watermark letters… “istockphoto.com”
Incredible!!!
I have done the exact same project in Blender a while ago. I even made a tutorial. Here is the thread to the topic in case you are curious.

Have fun on your project and its turning out good so far. I really enjoyed it and improved a lot on my modeling skill thanks to it.
The pieces look flawless as far as modelling goes.
Even the texture looks fine. I hadn’t noticed the watermark before you mentioned it, and even so it could very well be from the manufacturer.
Hi!
Slèpnyrl: The model is very similar, but mine has four pages of parts, and a little hole in his head. I looked at your tutorial, very nice!
Lokee: Thank you! I am working very hard to keep it exactly like the pieces i scanned it, and I mean exactly (spending up to 15 mins on each piece). If you are sure about the watermark thing, I will keep it, at least for now.
Small update, finished the second page:
6th update: Finished the 3rd page, only one more to go! wow, that middle huge piece was agonizing.
Hello StrikerMunc,
Have you been creating these shapes by hand within Blender?
If so try Inkscape which can do a very good job of bitmap tracing which would provide you with raw shapes to import using svg2obj_043.py script.
Here are the URL’s:
http://www.inkscape.org/
http://jmsoler.free.fr/util/blenderfile/py/svg2obj_043.py
One problem which can occur is that the curve has knackered axis. To resolve go into edit mode select all verts and press ‘R’ Key followed by -90 this will allow for proper extrusion etc…
Hope this can be of some use now or in the future.
Kindest Regards,
Pixeltwister
Now that’s creativity!
amazing work! want to see it done
Hi!
Thanks everyone for your helpful comments!
I finally finished all the tracing, here is the fourth page:
And here is all of them:
Ok, I’ve started to assemble it, and it’s coming along nicely. But I still have the ribs to go, wish me luck!
Yay!!! The modelling is done! Now I just need a environment!
Awesome work. Chuck it in a jungle
This is really impressive.
Good work.
Yes the jungle is a good idea, or try to put it in your room.
