Barn - updated

And again some more, this time somewhat easier models. Quite squary :).

An old CRT monitor (if anyone’s interested, come buy and take it with ya :).)

I think that the twister needs more texture rotation around the middle. Not just deformation but the whippy clouds that scream around the outside with all the junk that it picks up. You gunna do a cow too?

I’d get rid of that reflection/highlight on the monitor texture. It’s going to look very weird when animated, since it’ll be stuck to the screen!

Thanks broken, I’ll certainly fix that, good tip.

David, is there a way to animate the texture’s rotation? I could only find the scale and position of it. But thanks for the tip.

your UV skills scare me! they are great! it is amazing ho much detail you can whack into one model with very few polys! loving the work man! keep at it!

Dopluis, hoe klein zou dat zijn? :stuck_out_tongue:

I was talking about the text on one of his models.
I am generally a high poly addict, but these low poly’s are nice.
Great work.

yeah just track the texture to an empty (object) and animate that.

Like doing a decal.

Thanks David, I’ll try that, though I’ve never done anything like it before, but I’ll look it up and give it a go. Thanks!

Dopluis haha nooit zien staan, lachen. Glad you like the lowpoly models. I’m keeping it lowpoly because I want to try and animate some of it using the Bullet engine! Testing with it works just fine, very fast and all. But everything falls down, even before something hits it and I’m still not sure how to fix that. So that models will only be falling, rolling and bouncing objects when they’re hit by something. Any pointers?

And thanks Blah!

I was buzy with school this week, but am gonna work a lot this weekend. I have drawn the barns structure in drawing so that’s next up. I’ll keep in touch.

Cheers

Great looking shed, however in my opinion, the edges on the boards and the bricks are too sharp. That is if you’re trying to make it’s look like it kind of old. And from the other renderings I assume you are. Other than that like I said, great looking shed.

I’ve made the first test for the shape of the barn. Kinda like it. Unwrapping was a 10-second-job and I will obviously do a better job than this, but was just to see some wood on it. Also made a weld-hood.

I was kinda busy with other things this week, unfortunately, but am gonna work more on this.

Cheers!

I’ve tried making grass. Funny that I never really tried this before. It’s big fun!
This is what I came up with.

I’ve made an animation where wind moves the grass. I’m real happy with it for I think it looks pretty cool :). To see it click one of these links. SWF, 10sec, 3.7mb.
Download from my Googlepages (best quality)
See at PutFile (nice quality)
See at YouTube (awful quality)

I’ve tweaked the grass some more, and implanted it into my scene with the barn and all. Work real cool! Also made some more objects (5.25-inch floppy-drive and a stool) and improved the UV-mapping of the barn structure.

I wish I had some more spare time to work on this project, it isn’t developing very fast.

Cheers

whoa, that grass is absolutely amazing.

Any chance for a tutorial/screenshot of the setup?

Thanks pal. The tutorial that helped me a bit was this one here.

Haven’t made real progress lately. I did made a test render with Indigo just now. 52 min.

I hope to get some more time to work on it soon.

Here’s a new render I did. You can see the future look of the barn here. Of course it will be night, windy and the scene will be destroyed by a tornado (fingers crossed), but Indigo is just way too much fun to fool around with. Rendertime 58min.

Here’s another render.

I’ve made a selection of the render above and rerendered it. Here’s the result after almost 4 hours. Colors modified in ps a bit. I’m gonna let it render for a few more hours.

I know I’m talking to myself but I don’t mind :D.

Wow that grass is COOOOL! The floor of the shed seems to have the relief (nor) reversed, the stones seem inlaid instead of being lumpy.

The ends of the planks have the wrong grain. I don’t recall ever seeing sawn timber without some circular grain, you just have the end of the texture map or procedural. Makes it look to fake. I think that the real world texture map on the van betrays it’s exterior origin, there seems to be sky reflection that wouldn’t be present in a shed.

But wow those renders look sweet. will you be able to simulate them with the internal renderer for fatser animation times?

P.S. In sheds that I have seen, people often nail in hooks just to hangs stuff up and get it off the floor, that way you aren’t tripping over it all the time and it would make the support beams look a bit more used. Also the floor in front of the bench space would have more dust collected there, and be worn a bit, smoother than the rest of the shed. Perhaps with a path from the door way where the most traffic is. Thats what happens on my carpet anyway. These should only be texture issues rather than modelling ones.

And boy there are some really eclectic things in that shed! Keep up the good work, I think it will be spectacular. Remember to model more detail into the foreground elements after you have blocked out the shots for the animation. This will sell the reality with out sacrificing to much memory.

First of all, thanks for all the critics David, it’s really really appreciated. Secondly, it’s been ages since I was last working on this project, I’ve been real busy with school, but some days ago I restarted working on this project! I also decided to make it a still in stead of an animation, it’s just too much work and too less time available. Sorry, damn it. Underneath are some screengrabs with wires or renders with my progress. Not much, but it’s a start.
Things I’ve done while you were asleep: made some more objects (boxes, lamps, leaves, pvc-pipes, some ivy-branches, cloth, ropes, darts, tiny modeling-improvements. Made a lot of texturing improvements, a nice floor texture (imo), thanks to some crits from David, better colored wood and stones and stuff, some bumpmaps. I’ve planned to work on more models, nicer textures, better light-setup, better arrangement of models, those kind of things. Critics of any kind are warmly appreciated :D.

I really hope I can find more time this and the next few weeks to work on this project. It was far too much work already to keep it as yet another not-really-finished project.

Cheers!

here’s another testrender (rendered for 2 hours, added glow, resized to a smaller size and removed some fireflies in ps)
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/8653/im1202849340copyqs5.th.jpg
I keep forgetting it’s no longer an animated scene so now I can make ‘normal’ renderable objects in stead of actual planks or bricks or roof slates and stuff, so that I can make it look better, though still. Also textures will be increased in resolution and detail. Mark my words haha

Here’s another test render. Materials are lot better now.

this is looking amazing dude, really love the attention to detail,
