I’m trying to create an IPO curve to manipulate the ALPHA channel of a material. I know how to get to the IPO Curve / Material editor screen but I don’t know how to insert a curve…
Basiclly, I don’t know how to insert an IPO curve in the editor or in 3Dview (via Keyframe) if it isn’t on the IKEY menu…

There’s a couple of different ways of doing it:
Make sure your mouse cursor is in the Material Buttons window when you press [i],
In the IPO Curve Editor, make sure you have the IPO Curve type located in the header set to ‘Material’ (Usually it defaults to ‘Object’). Then Left Mouse Click a channel on the right side list - it should turn white to indicate that it is selected. Finally just Ctrl+ Left Mouse click anywhere on the graph portion of the IPO Curve Editor to add points for the curve. Press [n] if you wish to set them more exact; either in or out of Edit mode.
