Basilisk

Hi everyone! Although I’m new to this forum I want you to check out one of my projects right away. All modeling and texturing done within Blender using texture paint. I made adjustments to the textures in Gimp afterwards. The scene is rendered with Blender internal renderer (version 2.5).
Hope you like it!

Skin seems a bit shiny. Love the texturing and the wrinkles. Good job on the eyes and frills.

The model itself is nice, however the scales are too uniform, and the texture mapping could be better…

take a look at this:

the scales have variation in size and position, yoiu should do that to be more natural

also, a wider shot with more environment (and maybe a story) could go well with this

Pretty good otherwize…

What do you mean exactly? Are there visible seams?

What story?

i think they mean that an image could tell a story in itself. So, try putting this model in some situation that possibly create more interest than seeing just a model, by trying to tell us something more. You can create more dramatic illumination, add some insect or something, here’s a great example on composition and “telling a story in one image”.

Anyways, the model seems great, and the texture shows no seams, but it could show some color and tone variations as shown in the reference.

the texture is too uniform in a way that photo pop850 is a good guide to what is wrong with your texture. just looking at it you can see the tone and colour variations that the real basilisk has if you add that into your texture it could make things better

THAT IS AWESOME!!! I tried making my Gecko on Blender once, but it didn’t go nearly as well as that. And that texturing was done in Blender!? It’s way better than anything I could do.

Here’s a lizard texture I made awhile back. You can use it if you’d like. I think it might be upside down at the moment, but that is easily fixed.

nice, but thats not a basilisk…

nice, but thats not a basilisk…

uh… yeah it is.

Try a little harsher shadows. That was the only thing that came to mind to me. I like the little guy, but he does not seem to be really gripping the log.

I think it looks great, wonderful job. A beautiful model and a nice texture.

sorry, when i said basilisk i was thinking of the mythological creature.
after doing some research i see you were referring to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilisk#Reuse_in_science

but as i said, nice! it looks great (especially now that i know what the real thing looks like ;))
