Basket Ball

I recently got an opportunity to design my own credit card.
I wanted something simple and since I like Basketball and Blender (of course) I decided to try something like below.

Any comment is most welcome.

It looks fine. But super simple and really dark. I guess that’s what your going for, right?

I like it but I think basketballs are covered in dots that are more uniform and evenly spaced. You probably wont notice on something as small as a credit card, but just thought I’d point it out.

i would make the lines in the b-ball white with emit… my two cents. good tho

Yes, simple and dark that’s my target

And yes balls are covered with bit more unified dots, but not that much, and it’s hard to achieve this with just procedural textures. And I’m using only these textures - no images.

I tried the to make the ball white, or lines white but it wasn’t that good

Why don’t you use something like this for a normal map:

And color the basketball to make it more interesting

My goal is to use only procedural textures.
This image texture would cost a lot of work to make it seamless.

And I’ve colored the ball to see how it looks but it wasn’t anything nice at all.

I’ve slightly updated the logo and ball positions and a texture.

See how it looks from the close up.
Please keep in mind mind that I’ve added some noise textures to make the ball look a bit worn-out.

After a while I decided to add a rim

What do you think?

Wow awesome. Looks like a black and white photo. Nice lighting. I dig the sneaky blender logo too :stuck_out_tongue:

I think maybe the rim is a bit too small though?

You mean the size of the hole or the thickness?

Actually both now that you mentioned it. It’s really fine as-is. I’m just calling out the stuff you might not notice, you know. I stare at a model for hours on end sometimes and eventually stop noticing the faults.

Alright, I have reduced the size of the rim (slightly) and played with some nodes to add depth blur and a bit of contrast.

The rim has to be bigger. On a real hoop you can almost fit two balls side by side in it.
Other than that its looking pretty good.

Hmmm… I just made it smaller…
Please make your minds up boys

Sorry I just reread and I can see where that’d be kinda confusing. To clarify:

I think we both mean make the rim thickness less, and the radius of the rim itself more.

Hope that helps ><

Thanks!
I will try that soon

I enlarged the rim, what do you say now?

Agh >< I hate to be a pain, but for how good that modeling is, I really think it should have correct proportions so…

Here is an example.
And here is another.

I think if you at least increased the hoop’s radius once more by double the amount you did last time (150% of current size) you should be ok.

The thing is that it basically is just like the examples, but the ball is not in the midlle but just at the edge of the rim, closer to the camera, so maybe that’s why it looks bigger?
