I modelled a 1989 Batmobile from the first Tim Burton movie. Thought I might share it you. Everything was done in Blender.
The model is not very detailed, I found lots of variations of this car, so there are parts that might be different.
For the lighting I used an HDR image from hdri-locations.com, this part was rendered in cycles. For the other passes, like shadows, ambient occlusion, lights and fire simulation I used the Blender Internal, and composited it on top of the cycles render underneath with one of the provided backplates (I have just put some directional blur to it).
Jonathan L & ldh1109: yeah you are right, I thought cars are usually very reflective so I didn’t bother with the materials at all, I just threw in the glossy one, tweaked some sliders and that’s it.
maybe I modify that later.
I like the render and views. Dramatic! But the vehicle looks too bumpy. You need to smooth it out. And chrome Jet intake? Here is good reference image you can look at of real Jet car. The turbine needs to be spinning if the jet is running though. You know, all blurred up.
Also the jet exhaust needs some improvements. This one looks good:
Whilst it might be too reflective, for me that isn’t what stops this being brilliant; no blur on the car’s movement. More important - imo as the blur there could be artistic licence - is that the turbo fan is not blurred to indicate its movement. It would definitely showing the spin effect rotating objects have.
that was on purpose. camera moving in the same direction/with same speed as the object /focus set to object/, so this way the batmobile should be sharp, and the background motion blurred. you’re right about the spinning turbo, as ridix pointed that out too.
this kind of effect I was trying to recreate:
and as I’m writing this comment, I see that the trees in the background shouldn’t be blurred that much, because of the parallax effect, they should appear to be moving slower, than the objects in the foreground.
