Bee

Hey guys. I’ve been learning blender for a few months and this is the first thing I’ve made from scratch that I actually feel quite proud of! It was partly inspired by Andrew Price’s awesome tutorial on how to make realistic fur. After following the tutorial I thought to myself “damn, that would make an awesome bee!”.

I’m still not completely happy with the legs, and there are a couple of things that probably need tweaking. I’d appreciate any feedback or advice for a fledgling blender geek.

I think you did a good job with the legs TBH. I was looking up Bees through google images, and they usually have black stripes on their rear end, without fur, or less fur. So if you use vertex groups, you assign hair particles to those particular spots on the bee. I would possible reduce the amount of glossiness in the eyes as well.

Thanks for the feedback Will! I think I’ve been looking at those legs for too long and I’ve stopped being objective about them. It’s good to know someone else thinks they look ok. I’d actually increased the glossiness in the eyes because I wanted them to “pop” a bit more, but maybe you’re right and I just need to knock them back a bit. I’ll definitely look at what you said about the fur on the rear.

I’ve made a couple of tweaks, mainly to the fur and lighting, with a bit of colour correction. Thought I’d share the updated version. Any feedback or advice is always appreciated!
