BEER (Blender Extended Expressive Rendering) Update

hm… i have read about beer at several places now but still don’t understand what it is. can somebody explain it in a few sentences? :slight_smile:

is it a new renderer? or a user interface for making NPR rendering easier but it uses cycles/BI and freestyle?

This is a proposal to upgrade the current limited Expressive Rendering of Blender Internal Renderer. BEER also looks into solving workflow problem and hasten stylize shader production.

I think it will be something like in the video.

@Scotchtapeworm is right.
With the layering system, shaders are simple to understand.
If you been painting on raster software such as GIMP or Photoshop,
you’ll find that with that simple layering, you can produce endless styles.
In the end it is how you build the shader primitives that counts.

TF2 using the same system.

Overview of BEER
http://blendernpr.org/beer-design-overview-july-2014/

BEER team currently looking for C/++, openGL coders, to see how BEER should be designed.
The current team has been code reading for almost 1 week now.
We roughly understand what makes Cycles so different compared to BI.
We are still figuring out Blender code structures,
after that is done (and documented) we’ll dive into each BI’s code file to see what it takes to build BEER.
