Beginner playing with Arrays

Ok so I saw some movies on you tube. I really liked this one:

So I decided to try it out for myself, found a video tutorial from blender nation, got the basics of the array down etc…but I’m doing something wrong…
The faces in mine are all messed up because of the multiple faces occupying the same area. I made a quick example of 4 cubes, as if they were getting extended in an Array animation. That’s what’s happening in my animation :frowning:

I’ve searched and fiddled with all sorts of options but I can’t seem to make it not do that. The above movie has many many cubes all intersecting, yet they don’t seem to have this problem.
I’m hoping the answer is really simple and I just overlooked it

have you checked this out

Yes, I did see that while I was looking for tutorials…just read it again…I don’t see anything that could really help…Was there anything in particular you saw on that page?

It’s strange, I’ve just been playing around and I can’t seem to reproduce the problem. Can you post a sample blend?

Hmm, that makes me think I’m just doing something wrong lol…
But here’s a little sample. Just grab that empty in the middle and drag it in a direction, leave all the cubes in some way inside each other, then render.

Maybe I should hunt up the guy who made that you tube movie and ask him how he avoided it…

Ok, I think I found the problem: you have raytraced shadows turned on (in the Render buttons, next to the big “Render” button, the little button titled “Ray” is selected). When I turned them off, the ugly artifacts went away. Render times got much faster as well

I don’t know if there’s a nice way to have raytraced shadows without the ugly artifacts, sorry.

Thank you so much

Here’s my movie

Heh, cool. Glad I could help
