Beginner question - UV Mapping on 3DS imported object

Hi,
I downloaded a 3DS model and then imported it in the Blender.
The download also came with Material Map which I want to apply to the object.
So I split my view, made one of the view as UV/Image Editor.
But instead of seeing a unwrapped version of the object, I see the rendered object in this view.

Am I doing anything wrong?

I am trying to attach the 3DS and map file but some error props up, so I have uploaded them to Google Drive.
Here is the link:

Can anyone help me understand how to get this right?

Delete it then using the X button

Ok,
After I add the image map image into this view, I can see the unwrapped view.
I dont know how but it worked.

But now I am facing another issue.
If you open the 3D omdel, its a model of a pair of jeans.
Somehow, I am not able to mark the seams properly to generate proper flat pieces of the jeans.

Is the model OK? or I need to modify the model to make it “seamable”.

Thanks again for your help.

What do you exactly mean not able to mark seams. You cannot select edges ? Cannot mark as a seam ? Don’t know where to place seams ? etc etc

Why do you want to mark seams anyway since the object is already UV unwrapped.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
I was marking seams so that I can properly apply the image map to the object.
I will see if I can apply the material with the existing unwrapping.

If it works, I will post an update.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi all,
I solved the problem. I was able to map the texture correctly.
I think i was not doing the UV unwrap properly or something…
