Benchmark 2x Opteron vs 4x Xeon

Okay, at work we are in the process of installing a rather nice server. So I thought I’d throw blender on it and see what the benchmarks came up as. So I used the file found here and ran my tests:

http://www.eofw.org/bench/

As of this writing the server is in 17th. Does anyone want to guess why it’s so low? Here are the specs:

4x 3.20Ghz (Dual Dual core + HT)
4GB RAM
Windows Server 2003 r2

If you notice I used 8 threads, and it came in at # 17. Can this really be a testimony to the terrible performance of Intel procs, or is it simply showing how much the buss hurts the Ray tracing?

Ideas?

is this the older xeon? or the Core 2 Duo Xeon? I am assuming the 3.20Ghz model is the older Xeon based on the netburst architecture, which is probably why it scores so low. The new intel processor (and opteron) are significantly faster clock by clock than any netburst processor, hence the differnce in speed.

Not to mention the fact that most of the top 20 results are either run on an overclocked system or with self-compile optimized blender.
