Best Addons ever that should be in 2.79

(Meta-Androcto) #1

Hi,
This is your chance to speak up.
If there was an opportunity to have a say in 3 new free or donated addons into Blender 2.79, to mark the end of what was the 2.4x to 2.5x to 2.63 to 2.7x. what would you choose & why.
https://developer.blender.org/T50357 is the official task.
Post here your suggestions & reasons.
Do not suggest paid for addons unless you are the author.
Creative addons will have preference over ui scripts.
go for it.

(Odilkhan Yakubov) #2

I will suggestion:1. Denoiser(it seems not addon);2. Archimesh;3. Sapling;4. Modular tree;5. Rock generator;6. ANT Landscape;7. Smart UV;8. Others (Bsurfaces, UV Align, MetaTools, LoopTools, Ivy generator and etc).

(Youssef Charles (يوسف تشرلز)) #3

EWOC Tools
Surface Deformer
Quick tools

(Looch) #4

of course,

(XenWildman) #5

Sverchok and Animation Nodes.

Edit: … and of course Filmic!

(¯\_(ツ)_/¯) #6

I’ll go with these 3: retopomt, would be great if had a panel instead of shortcuts but is great 4 retopo to me, mira tools and ManuelBastionilab

(nickw) #7

these three addons are practically essential to me

1:yavne (Yet Another Vertex Normal Editor) this addon is perfect for the face-weighted normal workflow

2: Quad unwrap really useful for unwrapping tubes it also keeps the spacing between segments
instead of averaging them like the follow active quads tool

3: OpenGl lights presets more useful than matcaps as they can be customized

also TinyCad is super useful but i think its already included in blender

(brothermechanic) #8
  1. animation-nodes

  2. blam

  3. blender-light-studio

  4. mira-tools

  5. uvsquares

I can’n select 3 , because it all are cool.

(tin2tin) #9

awesome list, most are in blender already, I’m after new addons.

Modular tree;5. Rock generator;6.
are interesting choice, maybe for 2.8 these ones if the developers are interested.

  • rock gen being the long standing addons contrib addon in nightly builds. Keep in mind ant landscape already has sphere option

EWOC Tools:
which parts? there’s bug reports with current blender.

Surface Deformer:

Quick tools:
interesting choice, would need to talk to jw about it.

Sverchok and Animation Nodes:
if they think their systems are stable, but these type addons are more for 2.8, certainly they will get a special mention when I write 2.79 addons release notes
… and of course
Filmic!
Link?

3: retopomt, would be great if had a panel instead of shortcuts but is great 4 retopo to me:
yes I sent pm but no reply some weeks back, I can do the panel.

mira tools and ManuelBastionilab:
are developed independently from Blender, certainly they will get a special mention when I write 2.79 addons release notes

sounds interesting, author would need to ask.

2: Quad unwrap really useful for unwrapping tubes it also keeps the spacing between segments
instead of averaging them like the follow active quads tool

sounds good, I’ll check.

3: OpenGl lights presets more useful than matcaps as they can be customized

really like these myself

also TinyCad is super useful but i think its already included in blender

yes it was included after I asked the author if he would be interested. for 2.78 release.

UV squares & blam sound interesting.
blightstudio still has a cyclic depend error, I’m sure you know it’s nothing to worry about, but it’s a showstopper. I use all the time, it’s great.

The vse Blendervelvets scripts: http://blendervelvets.org
Especially the Blender to Ardour export script.

It would be good to get feedback fron them too, VSE tools are under represented as addons in Blender.

Thanks for feedback, don’t stop there, it would be nice if some addons developers joined in too.

(Razorblade) #11

The most advanced addon : ManualBastioniLab, a makehuman inside blender (people as basic objects should be part of blender)
Currently its not even part of the optional enable-able addons its a seperate download here
this is a free addon wich is amazing for the quality of wok that went into it, and it share the opensource thought with core blender.

(¯\_(ツ)_/¯) #12

Meta-Androcto first of all thanks for the retopomt try, is really hard to find updates for this sometimes, secondly yes u r rigth these others r still in developement. Well, I’ll go then with the sculpt tools addon, the mask extract of this could be integrated in the sculpt mode, is really the only thing I use from this but I’ll be happy just to have that in the official addons list, the proxy picker and the UV Align\Distribute

(Lane) #13

The question is more, does the authors want it to be included as default addon in Blender ?

(Safetyman) #14

Meta-Androcto I absolutely cannot live without your materials library… thank you. It should be built in:
https://github.com/meta-androcto/materials_library

I agree about mira tools and ManuelBastionilab.

Those are 3 of the best addons, but I use this SVG export addon almost every day and can’t live without it (this is the only link I have): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16486113/Blender/archivos/temp/SVG/export_svg.py

(MmAaXx) #15

the Y-A-V-N-E addon, that help to set vertex normals to very specific orientation, is pretty unique in the addons universe, I hope to see this addon officially supported by Blender

and also the super helpful:
looptools
F2

(czerw) #16

More sculpting stuff! Why nobody loves sculptors?

BRUSHES

http://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/86419 those needed some fixing last time I checked, but apart of that they’re pretty sweet

NAVIGATION, FAST BRUSH SELECT/RESIZE

INSTANT MESHES EXPORT/IMPORT SCRIPT
https://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?387378-WIP-InstantMesher-automated-export-and-import-for-Instant-Meshes-(Windows-Linux) I somtimes have some problems setting it up on some systems, but generally it works great.

(3pointEdit) #17

For the VSE I vote for

  1. Easy-Logger https://github.com/Nikos-Prinios/easy-logging
    and
  2. interactive transform tools for the VSE https://github.com/kgeogeo/VSE_Transform_Tools
    non VSE
  3. the Cutaway shader https://blendbits.blogspot.com.au/2017/02/the-cutaway-shader-free-blender-add-on.html
  4. an alternative to the BLAM script for camera calibration https://github.com/mrossini-ethz/camera-calibration-pvr it has more recent development

(nikitron) #18

Meta-Androcto
SV and AN are both alpha stage addons
It is the way of “all in nodes” that will come not so quick, we are developing specific things, going to easy complexity (easy for user).

(VANDERHORST) #19

+1 for AN and sverchok

(Youssef Charles (يوسف تشرلز)) #20

@Meta
Sorry I got the name wrong
It’s called surface follow
Blender’s very own SlideKnit
It’s essential for hard surface modellers or even organic modellers
