Best AMD card for LokDev and EEVEE

I would like to know if there is someone with a Mac system, with e-GPU that does render on CPU + AMD GPU.
Also on complex scenes if LokDev is super great for him.

I have an iMac with AMD 560X and on simple scene like this one, i get 1 fps on LokDev-> the image is from Cycles

Also on the same i5 iMac if I render this scene in Cycles CPU I get 25:67 seconds, then 41 seconds in AMD pro render with GPU+CPU. If I render the same scene in Blender 2.79b CPU ONLY I get 24:40 seconds (faster than 2.8, and i forgot Blender 2.80 open in the background…)

My problem is LokDev where I cannot check and do modeling with the help of materials because I have less than 1fps.

Back on 2.79b we had that Display objects solid with GLSL material that now for some very frustrating reason is gone.

Check with AMD community or on RadeonPro discord.
IIRC, VII is the real thing.

My main focus is to work on Blender so killer cycles render are not my problem. Those less than 1fps for LokDev are killing me…
I refuse to think that a free software asks a 1000€ hardware solution:)

Why would the price ( I think you are referring to that when you are saying free) of a software make the task at hand computationaly, and therefore hardware wise, less demanding?

Free Blender-> Because they believed that this artistic tool should be for everybody.

A free version should be built so it makes ok with most people not with the paying people (cuz there are none, for a free software - do not mix donation with fee)

Blender 2.79b works on so many computers/macs/tablets/OS that it makes the enterprise solutions jealous.
The only rival it had was Paint. (Gimp was/is/will be bad)
I work 9-10 hours a day on Dassault Catia. Is bad, but is normal… is made for companies to pur money from their gain.

Blender 2.80 for Mac os is dead, as it seems.

Ok cool, that makes a lot more sense to me. And yes, unfortunately Mac users are in for a rough time (at least in regard to Blender, maybe other OSS too). But as an outstander it pretty much fits with Apples ‘walled garden’ philosophy as I see it. It was a noble thing to give Blender to all platforms. Maybe it’s time to move on…

Edit: I am not mixing up anything. I have a clear distinction of free and gratis software. I was not so sure about you. Your last post does also seem to mix the freedom aspect with the gratis aspect.

Maybe some smart dev will put back the good old Display objects solid with GLSL material in Blender 2.82 because I think 2.81 is too late.
That would make some 130+ users of mac os happy.
I read that even for those with iMac Pro things are not pink in the new Blender… that was a 5k machine - like a second hand car…

That’s what I don’t get with Macs. They are expensive as hell and yet so limiting. Limiting in terms of restricting the user.

You only asked for the best card :smirk:… for everything else, you just do it to yourself.

For me this became true since blender 2.8

Actually back in 2012 i received a macbook. Could not run 3ds Max on it and I was ready to sell my prize because Max was my happy place.
But I ran into Blender. Been using it for pleasure since 2013, when I sold my old PC.
For 6 years I had Blender as a tool, same as the mac.
Now Blender 2.8 is more like a software because is no longer fast (lokdev)

I just tested on my work computer Lenovo P51 i7 7700HQ with Quadro M2200. Loads the scene very slow (5-6 seconds) in Lokdev viewport but then I can continue to edit the characters with ease.
Weirdly on iMac the scene gets operational in less than 2 sec but when I try to rotate it has 1fps?!

Loading times may be impacted by the fact that MacOS is a Unix derivate. I imply you’re using Windows on the Lenovo?
With 2.80 we somehow had to raise the bar. While supporting old hardware is cool and all, it yet is hindrance for evolution. If you are really depending on Blender it’s time to change platforms. I tend to believe that the money invested in a e-GPU solution is better put into a new PC. Budget is a thing, I certainly know. But from you’re writing I get you are a professional. So there should be room to justify the cost.

Solved…
Sold the brand new Mac and bought a Windows replacement.
