Best approach to animate a BVH file

I have an armature model imported from a BVH file. I am trying to find the best way to apply this armature to a mesh model.

I looked around and found some human models, but I still can’t get them to work.

  1. Which version is easier to achieve this? 2.37 or 2.41? I see they have totally different performances when I apply the armature to the model. The animations are totally different. I couldn’t get either to look right, but in your experience which one will be easier?

  2. How do you deal with the case that the armature doesn’t look precisely like the model? Is it easier to deform the model to conform to the armature or vice versa?

  3. (Redundant Question, sorry! ) If I try to conform the mesh to the armature (by the use of a different armature that came with the model file), how do I fixate the model to its new position (in Blender 2.37). It reverts to its original position after exiting Pose Mode.

Thank you very much in advance for all the help. Sincerely appreciated
