Best option for a Graphics Card on an iMac 21.5 (2019)

Hello everyone,

I really need someone’s help:

Last year I purchased a 21.5in iMac, i3 with 8gb of memory and a Radeon Pro 555X 2 GB graphics card installed.

I have started working with Blender 2.9 a couple of months ago (I am a freshman with all of this). Most of the times I render in Cycles. I realized it takes a lot of time, being a render engine with better quality (I guess). The thing is, when I try a short simple render animation it takes to much time to render (ex: a 5 seconds render takes over 24 hours). I have changed some rendering configurations to try to speed things up but I figure it has to do with the pre-installed graphics card and also memory. I have seen some tutorials, read some forums and realized that an external eGPU (?) with a graphics card would be the best solution. I would appreciate some recommendations on which could be the best option/options.

I know nothing of graphics cards specifically for render in Blender.

Please help me on this! I feel stuck with this.

Thanks!

Try AMD Radeon™ ProRender for Blender®

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply.
I’ve tried it. Whenever I choose Radeon as my render engine, Blender freezes and I have to restart the program :frowning:
