Best way to add audio to an animation

Whats the best way to add audio to an animation made within blender? I figured out how to add audio in the rendered mpg, but i’m wondering if it is better to add it in with a seperate video editing program. If so what free programs are the best to do this with?

I think there isn’t any problem adding audio with blender sequence editor.

You can always do it old school and use VirtualDub. That’s what I used before blender was using FFMPEG.
