Best way to animate a long hair

Hi
Which the best way to animate a long hair?
I was thinking about using particles with curves guide and hooks linked to a mesh grid to guide me to animate this curves, here are a example of this junction
or still it is better to use a mesh with hair texture?

I wanted to animate a long hair of this type

that is possivel? or is necessary to be added other functions to the Blender to become this reality?

One more time Thanks

its definately possible. here’s what I’d do (i havent actually tried this):

use curve guides and softbody them
or
use curve guides and use armatures and the IK system to animate them.

softbodies on hair won’t look that good unless the hairs are very small, the softbody makes the hair rigid so it won’t be affected by gravity.

I think that for shorter/middle hair the softbody is excellent, but for long hair they balance of strange form and enter on the mesh, therefore it was thinking if it would not be better to have absolute control on the hair, it goes to give more work but the result can be better, therefore I did not test this, I before wanted to talk on this and to change ideas, always I used the Blender and I do not know that this is made in others softers

hmm, what about the new cloth modifier in some testbuilds? it has self-collisions, global gravity, and hair moves alot like cloth…

cool, it had read on this even in some place, but this resource will come together in this new version?
