Best way to create nose hair!

Hi, this is my first post so sorry if its in the wrong place…

Bought ‘Blender Essentials’ a couple of weeks ago - excellent stuff, and started working my way through it… hence the sculp/UV/bump map and a typical monster for starting with:

My question…
Any experienced ‘Blenders’ advise the best way for a bit of nose hair? Tried creating a vertex group and adding particles to it but it distroyed my bump map.

Any direction of the best way to do this would be really appreciated!

Just make a separate object, put the hair (and a curve modifier) on it, and stuff it in his nose.
Actually, make two, one for each nostril.
