Best way to make ingame ropes?

I was trying to make some ropes for a model that will be put ingame, but I can’t figure out a good way to model (+ texture) such a rope… How can I make them look smooth without wasting too much poly’s? I’ll run it on a pretty strong engine, so it isn’t like Blender that hast problems handling over 100k faces…
Btw, does anybody know some rope textures? I can’t seem to find some either…
