Best way to simulate space?

Hey all,

My first attempt at making a “space” set, was the biggest bloody cubes i could use and a blender image of the star feild. Not bad, but definatly not good!!!

I have heard a few people say they knew of better ways than this method, and was wondering if someone could post their wizdom here!!!

This would be appreciated, as i would like to try to get it to go on my own by instruction first. But if i suck, maybe some kind soul will possibly contribute a bit to the project. I already have a list going of people to credit, if you want that is…

Anywayz, iv said my peace!!!

Cheers,

Matt

Blend on, and blend well!!!

A really easy way is to make a cube or icosphere, put your starmap texture on it and then vertex parent it to yor ship or whatever then you get the ikllusion of space being infinate, works well for me.

Abracsis used small particles in his submarine game to simulate plankton. It looked pretty cool. With a little modification you could change it a bit in the way to achieve the homeworld-like particles. Ask him - I have taken a look into it but don’t remember how he did it.
Additionally you should (as said and done if I understood you correctly) use a textured sky-cube (or -sphere) with a starfield or some nebulae. I liked the homeworld look.
