Better quality transparency in viewport?

I’m working on creating some low poly hair in Blender. I got transparency working in the viewport (just some planes with alpha checked under texture face), but only the selected plane shows the alpha correctly. The others are kind of cumbly and ick when displayed on top of each other.

I can still model the hair with the crumbly texture preview, but I was wondering if there is something simple I am missing that would show all the planes with the nicer looking transparency. Thanks for any help!
