I thought I understand how “Clamp Overlap” works in the bevel modifier: if the bevel amount is larger than the smallest distance between edges the clamp will kick in and limit the bevel amount to prevent distorted topolgy. However this does not seem to be the case with my recent model. The model is rotated by 5 deg in object mode, claming is enabled but it is not being activated (no difference between clamp enabled vs disabled).
However when I apply the rotation, the clamp kicks in and in addition it clamps to 0.
Any ideas as to why this happens? Based on my understanding the apply rotation operation should have no impact on the topology of the model, thus the distance between edges should remain the same.
