Bevel/Extruding custom .SVG's vs. Native Curves

So, they do act a bit differently… sometimes it works great… other times not so much… its either a gigantic sphere like mess or… well… something not exactly what it should be.

I did set the SVG’s in AI according to one forum member… tried scaling them up… all sorts of things…

Is there a factor, detail or a setting I need to consider?

Any tips?

I would really love to get to the bottom of this… as to why custom curves don’t work (whether its Taper or Bevel Ob) as nicely… it would be a bueatiful thing… as creating curves is kind of a … but yeah…

Yes I did set the SVG as he suggested. They import fine. They don’t extrude very well though…

When I apply an imported shape [as a Bevel Object] to a ‘native’ curve it works OK.

But when I apply those shapes to imported curves, even though bevel nicely also, but as a Bevel.Ob they turn into a gigantic sphere’s or toruses…

Not a one curve has applied scale (which is -20 for some). As a result any bevel used will be off. However even after applying the scale (having Scale 1,1,1 on N-tab for curve) seems that beveling still uses not applied values which is either bug or feature… Workaround is to either select all curve points and Alt-s scale or convert curve to mesh Alt-C and back before beveling.

Nope. It still it created a torus when I applied my shapes to my curves…

But yeah… normal beveling works, even if its -20 scale…

Man I need to get down the workflow of this…

Lol, took a while to figure which is what in your file (despite existing naming).
Shapes you use for the bevel need to be located in the center - Shift-S cursor to Center then in edit mode with shape - all selected Shift-S Selection to cursor(Offset). Further off the center bevel shape points are harder to get what’s going on…It’s not that it’s incorrect somehow, but in combination with scales…

Well, even though ‘your’ curves work, mine don’t added your ones along with mine, don’t see any difference and yet they act differently…

Funny thing is, when you Join a good with the ugly one together… depending on the order of selecting then… they both appear the same, whether good or ugly… depending if you select the ugly one first or the good one…

One difference I see is that ‘my’ handles are long as fvck, when your ones are really short…

This is the moment you’d need Edit mode on ‘ugly’ thing (that is a curve you beveled), select all and Alt-s.
Don’t ask me why… There are a lot of things happening around the Curves from time to time.

So its got something to do with the handle length…

No, Alt-s is bevel value on a curve point: curve gets thicker or thinner. S or scale spreads this along the curve’s length (and shows up as a different handle lengths).
