We need a bit more description…what edges of your mesh are you trying to bevel?

It’s always very hard to tell if only some result are shown… with what topology did you start ??Because…

This might be one of those videos i think about but never find time to do, but im thinking of putting together a series on topology for bevels. The rules are quite different - N gons are your friend.

here… well, i think okidoki’s answer is the best here. You could use a bevel mod using wieght so you can select which edges are beveled. Usefull if you want to be a bit more non-distructive in your modelling.
