So nice!!!
The engines seems to be growning from the back of the ship, instead of protruding. They look like they are coming out from no were.
I don’t like the halo’s and the planet textures look too blurry to me.
The ship textures should be scaled down a bit. And what looks like two dark rocks could use a bit more lighting on them…
-Fixed lighting on rocks
-Changed the map on the big planet
-Scaled down textures on ship
-Changed the large halo’s color to orange
Thanks for the crits guys
edit Please do not comment on the resolution of the planet maps because i cant find any that are any higher resolution. If anyone knows where to obtain hi-res planet maps for free i’d love to hear about it. Thanks!
I like this first image better. If it isn’t supposed to look “relistic”, what is it supposed to look like?? It is kind of hard to rate something when you don’t know what it should look like. :-?
After giving it some thought I finally know what disturbs me most: the lighting on the planets is way off. Although the “sun” is behind them they are brightly lit from some invisible light source behind the camera. This may be intended, but it gives the whole image a pretty flat look. I’d experiment with some more creative ways of lighting this scene.
Apart from that it’s actually quite nice, keep going!
To "The_Nerd:
Not everything is realistic you know. What else is it supposed to look like?? hmm well lets say toonish or fictional or something of that sort. You seem to have a very closed mind to me. Secondly, i asked you to please not comment on the “blurry textures” because i cannot obtain any that are of higher resolution for free. Unless you have a good source for High-Res planet maps, or can buy me a texture disc, then i suggest you let it go. I also dont see the resemblence between that large halo and a flashlight. I think you’re just pulling stuff out of nowhere. Also, please explain how the darker rocks are better. IMO i think they’re worse.
To “konrad_ha”:
Thanks for the useful crits, i think im gonna play around with the lighting on the planets to try and make it look more round. I agree with your statement about the image looking flat. Thanks for pointing that out to me. I think if i use lights fixated on one layer i can fix the problem. Also, thanks for your encouragement. It really helps
you know, there are plenty of sites with free hi rez planet texture maps.
like here:http://www.oera.net/How2/TextureMaps2.htm
this is only an example, I know for a fact there is a site out there with these for all nine planets.
enjoy!
holy cow! i have these exact same maps but they’re of much lower resolution. the site i got them from claimed you had to buy them to get higher res maps. thank you very much CornDog you just made my day!
i dont know much about this stuff, but i like wha thas been called a halo that is behind the planet, i prefer the bluer one, but for the image and the way you have done the lighting the orange one may work better, my preference for the bluer one may just be that blue is my favorite color.
“(A)Do not let your heart be troubled; [a]believe in God, believe also in Me.”
this piece is way too full, where do you want me to look at? the rocks the planet or the airplane?
-remove the halo’s
-desaturate the planets and the rocks a little
-make your airplane overlap the planets, the composition looks awfull at this point.
-add motion blur
-higher the texture resolution on the planets
-don’t lit your model right from the front, because your image looses depth that way. better place a light in the left of the scene so your planets look more round instead like a circle
-smaller and less stars
