BGMC4: Snow Element

I will use the oft’ quoted “snowball affect” for this challenge. One will have to absorb matter to grow, and objects that collide with you will “Stick”. Slowly, your ball will absorb mass too, becoming ridiculously huge.

Na naaa na na na na na na na na Katamari Damashii. LOL - You should have similarly catchy music, too!

EDIT: By the way, in case you couldn’t tell, I’d like to see this. Finish it!

I had about the same Thought when I experimented with my 1-Liner Planet Gravity Script. :stuck_out_tongue:
Eager to see.

I am hoping I can get to work on this today…I have a habit of grabbing a lot of work. Ah well, I’ll put other projects on the back burner. Hope you enjoy this crazy rendition of a truly “inspired” game.

It will be called: Yuki no Katamari: Snow Masses!

By the way, thanks for the anticipation.

So far, I am modeling the basic character—THE PRINCE! In honor of the original, I will keep him green.

Wow, I have really slacked off. Still, I’ll up load a screenshot of the Prince really soon! Animating him will be simple, and the rest of the game will be “small potatoes” in comparison… almost there.

Here is a screenshot of my work so far… I do need to hurry, but the rest is a “cinch”.

Looking better now, but the UV textures are giving me trouble. Hmmmm.
You can now “pick up” objects! I just need the sphere to grow accordingly: Animations with Properties!
I have also neglected to finish the Prince’s rig, because the blend file doesn’t like the “r” key suddenly…(what you get for using Blender on a flashdrive).

For the music, an inspiration! I will use a ska style! Heavy brass will will mix in a jazzy rhythm with drums. I hope MuseScore can handle this…

Musical Inspiration sounds strange, and that is in most Cases good – I am interested in it. :]

Yeah, I still wish I could mix music with you’re skill, but I haven’t even developed that skill.

Anyway, enough whining, Satoru! I should be able to finish up the basic plan of level one. I have finished up the majority of the logic, except for the fancy bit that will make my Katamari expand.

Somehow my UV maps aren’t appearing on textured mode anymore… did I forget something?

In the image, the 3D view’s not in textured mode, so make sure that it is - otherwise, if you’re using GLSL, ensure that the material that you have the objects assigned to have the UV map and image assigned to their material.

Okay, working on that now…

Got it! You have to unwrap, get the colors, then bake the normals–in that order…

Now I need to finish the furniture…

Oh no! I have fallen behind! I could not get an work done today, I’ll have to work vigorously tomorrow.

Lovely, just lovely. The rotation key no longer functions, and the scale key has gone out… I’ll have to switch to the 32-bit version.

haha the joys of blender sometimes, its like its got a mind of its own!

Phew If you treat blender nicely, though, she returns the love. I managed to save the game by appending the more important stuff out. All has been fixed now, its just back to work!

I only needed to take a few minutes for my blood pressure to drop, too… I guess I’m still alive.

Update: NEVER, EVER, put any of your projects on a flash drive—you are just begging for a disaster

Edit: mrn, I couldn’t quit this challenge! I have to continue!

Oh dear, I forgot to explain the game mechanics.

Your player consists of: the Prince-he's a ghost, just there for the looks!
The katamari-a sphere that only appears to roll, and as something to stick to
The empty-it is the magic, because it binds the Prince and the sphere with parenting, and because it has the grow and movement logic.

That being said, the sphere has a property, “sticky”, that other cubes just love-they parent themselves instantly. with that, I either can make them ghosts or use their bounding boxes in a compound shape. Its all so easy.

The hard part is just spending the necessary time.

Better news! I only need to finish up the level objects, wrap up the code, and put in music!

Na, na na na na na na na, Katamari Damashii… Na, na na na na na na na, Katamari on the swing!

Its stuck in my head now…I have been humming it for 7 hours straight.

Sounds awsome! i sadl failed to finish my game again for the competition, I couldnt get the cube swapping mechanic to work and todays the last day so ya but hopefully ill still finish the game.
