Now I sequenced them as scenes, the biggest scene by know has ~700 mb.
Blender sequenced it well, but the video displays very slow in any mediaplayer I tried (vlc, wmp, real).
I think thats caused by the size of the file.
Does anyone know a trick to display such big files?
Which lossless videocompression could I use (I am a complete noob on that field)?
Or would it be better to convert the bmp to png (they are usually smaller in filesize, but if I am using no compression it is the same like bmp or tga), rendering to another format will take a bit too much time now (230h)?
The video is for a presentation on a large screen, so the quality and resolution must be quite high.

yes. You have to choose a compression codec. Try AVI JPG and then Anim. The output file will be called avi. Q90 should be ok to see on a large screen.
First of all, a little more info would be helpful. What os and version of blender are you using? What resolution did you render to? What resolution is your target screen?
Did you output to avi raw? (iirc, nothing plays avi raw well…)

I’m not sure what you mean by “sequenced them as scenes”……
If you already have the animation rendered to bmp files(png is better & lossless btw), all you have to do is load the image sequence into the SE, choose an output type, and blender will encode it in just a couple of minutes…you can quickly re-encode it with several different formats and compare the quality of each.
I am using 2.43 under windows xp.
I rendered to 933 bmp with 900x720 resolution, filesize of each pic: 1,88 mB (1.25 PAL, cause it will be used on TV possibly).
But for showing I need also a computervideo.
With sequenced I mean, I used Blenders Sequence Editor to connect the bmps to a videofile.
Uncompressed avi is to large to be played smoothly, even lagarith lossless codecs has a size of 300mB, which is still not played smooth. (Unless somebody knows a trick, but I think my hardware is on a limit here > Athlon +2000 CPU, 512 RAM, Radeon 9600 Pro 128mb GPU)
I just wanted to ask which codecs and settings would you recommend?
So I am playing arround with Xvid, CorePNG, HuffYUV, mpeg4, Indeo,…
so it is a big try and error game, just want to know if somebody is more experienced like me (which is quite easy)…
Xvid or Dvix with high quality.
i wouldnt choose mpg4, its a bloated codec.
Indeo would be nice, but the problem is the availability of players and the version compatibility. While you can play divx 1 with divx 5 installed you need every version of indeo to play some specific codec version (lots of confusion between 1.4.5 and 1.4.6 and so on)
so to get a broad spectrum of users, xvid or divx, maybe mpeg2 for DVD or VCD.
and get yourself virtualdub and avicodec, those progs help much.
In blender y are watching it from ram but in windowsmedia player it plays with speed that is the harddrives read speed which is simply not fast enough. Regular harddrive doesn´t do speed of compressionless animation/video
To show your piece to customer i recommend usb 2 stick and lossless compression which is animation or lossless by name. But what was read speed with usb 2?
hmm. i would go with indeo video compressor with minimum compression, BUT there is a big but that compressor is highly unlikely to not be in the other computers. Cinepak with minimum compression/loss is a prettty good choice, not many computers y couldnt view that with
The best results I got with huffyuv, lagarith and xvid.
But I am still trying.
Corepng has a strange artefakt (or I missed any setting): It turns the vid upside down:confused:

For corepng I had to flag the always suggest rgb button, now it is all right.
In the end we decided to burn the video as video DVD, so it should be no problem for any computer (the different codices always make trouble on different players…).
