Big Bang, Genesis, or Both?

I saw a program about the differences and controversies between evolutionary science and the christian way of explaining creation. I’m curious how many people in this community support either side…

Roel

ps. let’s get this straight, I don’t want a DISCUSSION, I just want to know your side.

My Side:

We’re here. Who cares why? It’s not going to do anything. We’ll all bloody die too, so what’s the big deal? Life is pointless and the more and more you explore it, the more questions you’ll raise and the less questions you’ll have answered. You should all know that by now. Simpletons live with a simple idea of creation- some dude who they’ll call ‘GOD’ (from the dyslexic word for a four-legged domestic animal) created it. Obviously, I’ll attack God because of my irreverence (i.e. bite me). Others say that this dude name DARWIN (from the Bill Gates book of Windows) is right by saying that we come from monkeys. “Yes, we have no bananas” etc… C’mon. No matter what you believe, you’ll still die in the end. Big bloody deal. No point in this, but as long as you’re going to look into it, I prefer to believe something that is realistic and not some deity (from ‘Diety’- a pepsi conceptual project) whom I’ve never seen. Overall synopsis: Who knows and/or who cares?

In summation:
We’re here now. We’re all going to die soon. Let’s just make the most of it and stop questioning it.

I expect a penny for my thoughts.

I’m a humanist, I believe in a god but not one that comes from a book, I believe that god use science to create what was created, however, life and planent can be argue on a theory of creation, but who and how was space created before the big boom.

I’d say both. Who’s to say that God didn’t make that ball of energy?

Neither of them are truly scientific explanations, both are not proven beyond a shadow of doubt.

Actialy theres a path of light that was left over from the big bang, the hubble telescope were able to pick it up, talk about dead on the theory of light.

I believe in the scientific explanation of it (even if it’s only theories). God is simply something some people use to explain what they cannot comprehend. Something they need to make their lives feel like they have worth - i.e. having an all powerful being watching over their lives.

It’s far too easy to just use god as an explanation for the unknown, without any evidence backing it. The religious masses will then take it as definition, as fact.

ScottishPig explained how I see things very well. Ultimately we cannot change anything in the universe, eventually we’ll disappear from it. What’s the point of our existence? The deeper you look into life, the more you see how futile and pointless it is. Religion serves to comfort people and shield them from this reality.

shows over folks…first come first serve…

the proper answer for me was not on the list :frowning:

The theory of light? Path of light? Do you even do any cross-referencing? We know you don’t check spelling, but you could at least make sense. The light the hubble telescope picks up is the energy that is still in and has always been in constant transition. Such as finding the shift towards the red end of the spectrum, this supports the concept that the universe is expanding, which then supports the idea of the big bang. It is about piecing together many pieces of the puzzle, many of which has yet to be found, and coming to a logical conclusion or a new theory.

As for me, I believe in both. Science is the rule of this dimensional-universe. It defines how things operate and function. But we can not deny the fact our world is extremely limited in exsistence and dimensions. I believe in God in a sense of existence on a grander scale of dimensionality.

Just as those who say we created religion as a means of coping, I believe many deny religion as a means of coping. Not only does science and math allow for the possibility of God, absolutely nothing proves or suggests otherwise. The rules of science are merely limited to this universe and dimensions, yet show the likeliness of the existence of others dimensions and universes. Psychology has shown that many people deny the future in order to live the moment. They block out the concepts of what’s greater than the immediate circumstances surrounding their life. It makes things simpler, and allows them to more-less just “float” through life without wondering or believing. Also, many deny religion and faith in order to preserve a self sense of power and control. They do not want to believe that they can not understand the reasons, that they are not always in control, that they may be judged. It not only allows them to cope easier with life, but also to better cope with their own conciousness.

I’ll quote a scientist…

When you do science you are getting away from religion…but the more science you do, the more you get near the religion…

or something like this…

If we go for the big bang…at the beginning…I mean…I can’t imagine a “coincidence” can create billions and billions and billions of star…planets…and living things…

Trinity: This is it. Let me give you one piece of advice. Be honest. He knows more than you can imagine.

Morpheus: At last. Welcome, Neo. As you no doubt have guessed, I am Morpheus.

Neo: It’s an honor to meet you.

Morpheus: No, the honor is mine. Please, come. Sit. I imagine that right now you’re feeling a bit like Alice, tumbling down the rabbit hole? Hm?

Neo: You could say that.

Morpheus: I can see it in your eyes. You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees because he is expecting to wake up. Ironically, this is not far from the truth. Do you believe in fate, Neo?

Neo: No.

Morpheus: Why not?

Neo: Because I don’t like the idea that I’m not in control of my life.

Morpheus: I know exactly what you mean. Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something.
What you know you can’t explain. But you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life. That there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is but it’s there, like a splinter in your mind driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I’m talking about?

Neo: The Matrix?

Morpheus: Do you want to know what it is? The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us, even now in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, when you go to church, when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

Neo: What truth?

Morpheus: That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else you were born into bondage, born into a prison that you cannot smell or taste or touch. A prison for your mind… Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself. This is your last chance. After this there is no turning back. You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes… Remember, all I’m offering is the truth, nothing more…

I’m for the big bang and evolution.

Just think if we came from apes what’s going to come from us?

Sonix.

some pretty f__ked up shit.

Martin

theeth. LMAO!!

I am just tired of theories being presented as facts.

ok coman misconceptions.

  1. darwin was a christian
  2. so was einstine and issac newton
  3. on a big enough scale anything including any god you may belive in is insognificant
  4. any religious person will deny fact 3
  5. I used to be a christian for 19 years till i stoped beliveing so dont bother arguing.
  6. science is OBSERVATIONS on reality
  7. science is constantly proved wrong because of this

not a fact but my view on things

everything is nothing and vice verser. whether you belive in a god or not
the univerce and you exsit because nothing cant. because if there was nothing that would be something and there would be a univerce all the same.

univerce is a bad word but its hard to sum up 4 years of thought into a paragrph.

i apologise for my spelling but … i cant spell (haveing dylixa test soon)

I never really undestood what is blasphemous on evolution theory
and why Big Bang should make God unnecessary.

It’s a pity that one can have a stylish discussion on these things only with people with the same oppinion. And that’s boring. :frowning:

At least, science an religion have something in common

Science: For every right observation …
Religion: For every true sentence …

there is a wrong interpretation

Got change for a quarter?

some pretty f__ked up shit.

ROTFLMFAO Nice 1 Martin.

Sonix.

So the two theories basically say:
“In the beginning there was god” and “In the beginning there was dirt”
God created the universe and the big bang made lots of stars and planets.

Why is there always a beginning? Time stretches out forever forward as far as we know, how do we know there even WAS a beginng?

Pooba

Can’t you at least give me some credit for once instead of hounding me all the time, it was your public education that taught me, so don’t blame me if the systom failed.
