Big issue with sand with a model imported from autocad

Hi everybody, i am working in a project that there is no way we can found the solution of our problem.:frowning:
The sand problem, that a lot of blender artists they say that is a very common problem , we have it, and is specially present in some parts of our model , and we test a lot of things for solution that , here are our tests:

increase the distance of AO
increase the samples of AO
increase the samples of the light
Increase antialiasing

The problem is present specially when we have in a part shadows.

We have clear problems in our model importing from autocad and in some parts i see a lot of faces and vertices that are not necessary ( and exactly there we have the problems with the sand) and the other day someone told me that will be a good idea to change the merge threshold in remove doubles, and we go to the maximum value without loose the form of the model , and the problem persist. The problem is that the model is very big and change that manually is a little complicated and will take some time, so am searching a solution that can help us now, or someone that can say that certainly we need to change the form of this parts manually ( parts with a lot of vertices) and there is no automatic way we will just have to make it like that.

The kind of light that we are using is point lights in rooms for a walking through in a museum.

The strange thing is that when we press no shadow, problem disappear immediately!!!, what do u guys think? what should we do? … i send an image attached so u can see how weird this can be, and don’t let me sleep good in my nights thinking what can we do and thinking that we will have to clean the model manually.

Waiting your comments and any suggestion please drop a line here :frowning:

I believe that if you remove doubles it will fix it. That is a artifact for having multiple polygons on the same area.

I have cleaned up AO problems by using a bilateral blur follow up from the compositor.
