"Big" Project

Hey guys, I’ve done allot of small animations but this is really the most complex animation that I have attempted.

I’m doing an animation that is approximately 3 minutes and 30 seconds long.
It has somewhere between 30-45 scene changes.
I’m using toon materials and many of the assets require multiple scenes to get the right lighting.

I am wondering what is the best way to compile the final animation.
Is it best to have 1 file with the entire animation.
Is it best to have a file for each individual shot/scene?

What are your thoughts.

Each individual shot, always.

individual scene, you don’t need a seperate file with all the associated linking and appending, for every camera change!

There really isn’t much linking or appending. The only asset used in multiple shots is the main character. The main problem is I have about 50 assets which require multiple scenes each to composite the lighting correctly. Now if I have one giant file, these scenes will be rendered weather they are being used or not. Having 150 scenes beeing rendered at once instead of 3 or 4 can be a problem.

If you want to do it the tried and true way, a separate file for each shot is the way to go.
Check out some of the open movies for examples of structure.

Also, it’s better to post questions in the support section, rather than the artwork section.
