BigBuckBunny char rig .blend file sizes

Why are the BBB char rig files so big ?

~90 meg for ChinChilla ? … ~47 meg for Rabbit ?

The meshes are not that “heavy”.

Is 2.46 storing data differently now?

Mike

The main reason for this is the MDef bindings that are used in the rigs. The file sizes can be cut down by half when using Blender’s in-built compression.

Ok, thx for the “mdef” clue. After some searching I found out that means “mesh deform” and it’s a new (to me) modifier. (Haven’t been “blending” for awhile).

Unfortunately, the manual page for modifiers has no mention of it. Same old story, new feature, no docs.

It’s in the release notes
