Would it be possible to add a normal map to make them partially 3d? Would that add anything, you think?
Very good tutorial. Thank you.
Hi NRK,
Great results and thanks for the tutorial. I have a bit of a double post here, in case someone else could answer my question (I left a comment on vimeo as well).
Has anyone had any luck setting up a good Billboard smoke system or sprite based particle system? I’m not sure if anyone is familiar with After Effects trapcode but it does this very well and very fast. It uses a single Billboard cloudlet with a particle system and most times it’s more than adequate for impact dust and smoke puffs without getting into the smoke generator.
any ideas would be appreciated
Thanks mate, great clouds!
bobrandolph: I don’t think normal maps would help here, but you could take several billboards stacked apart from each other to make a really realistic animateable cloud.
comeinandburn: blender doesn’t support sprites yet (wish it did), but I am really impressed with the object based particle system. You clould attach billboards that are almost entire transparent to one of them and get a similar effect.
