Blend node oriented "to window"

Is there an option for a blend node which allows me to set it up against the view window? I am after something like they used to do in movies to show dark atmosphere; overlaying a dimmed gradient from the top of the screen (the sky) fading downwards by the time it hits the horizon.

make a material with a blend texture. use that as a node.

Could you please elaborate on the steps… especially how to apply it to the view/render window?
