I did a bit of searching but didn’t find much on this.
I know blend1 files are sort of backups of the blend, but what I would like to know is : is there a good reason to keep them? Because I already have backups of all my blends themselves…
It would save a ton of disk space.
I just burn all sorts of junk to optical disk. I hardly ever need any of it.
When you save the .blend file and exit out, the .blend is the file at your latest save, the .blend1 file is the save before the latest save.
Saved me a few times for sure.
Ok, but if I know for sure that it’s an old file, etc. I could get rid of it…?
I’m not 100 percent sure, but I think the .blendN files are indexed as a result of using Save and not Save as … .
No one said you HAVE to keep them. Its just good idea to keep a few of the more recent ones.
I never knew how to “use” the .blend1 files… then I thought, oh you just rename the extension… wow I feel dumb. At least I didn’t have to look it up on teh interweb like I do for everything else in blender. Oh well, at least I know how to use them now.
Just to update you guys, if you have a lot of .blend files it may be a good idea to get rid of their .blend1’s, because I just opened up 12 GB of space on my hard drive.
yes, good point.
also check your autosave or temp folder.
cleaning that out can save many more gig of space.
