Blender 2.43 has encountered a problem..

Please help me, I am completely stuck!
I have just installed the latest version of Blender on my Windows XP system.
When I try to load it up, the program crashes immediately.
(blender.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience).
I opened up CMD and tried opening the program this way, to see what error message came up…
F:\Programs\Blender\blender.exe
Compiled with Python version 2.4.
‘import site’ failed; use -v for traceback
Checking for installed Python… No installed Python found.
Only built-in modules are available. Some scripts may not run.
Continuing happily.
Please tell me what I need to do in order to resolve this issue.

did an old version work? I have 2.43 on my XP no probs

I have tried other versions of the software, but they crash in exactly the same way as 2.43.

what do your OpenGL drivers say (in Display properties)

Plug and Play monitor on NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT?

yes, but what about the OpenGL drivers for the Nvidia card? are they enabled? There should be an OpenGL tab

The message you got is normal, is it actually crashing, or you just get the error message. Alot of people think something is wrong when they see that, but it just means you don’t have a fullinstallation of python. but you don’t need a full python install to run blender.

The program crashes as well, otherwise the DOS prompt would not bother me.

I don’t think there is an OpenGL tab, there is a GeForce tab in the advanced section.
