Blender 2.43 Release

OK, so, it’s me again… or not. The Blender 2.43 version is about to be launched. The questions are not for me, though I have to get some people to raise interest. But, I have some bug reports. And I have no Blender account to send them. So, could anybody that has something like that report a problem?? The “Shadowbuf” option is useless, since ( I don’t know who wants not to have a shadow for a certain object… ) I de-select the option and nothing happens, like doing its job switching between GENERATE SHADOW and not. So, this thread is open for stuff like this, and don’t IM me, since I am just an user, not an admin or anything!!:RocknRoll:

Huh? :spin:

Well…
Something about shadows!

agreed:spin::spin::spin::spin::spin::spin::spin:

OK, dudes! I will shorten the thing. All I want is a dude that has a blender.org account to report the Shadowbuf button problem, that’s all!!

Yearh Thats right, unfoarntaly I don’t have a accaount… :frowning:

If you’re talking about the Shadbuf option in the Render pipeline, it works fine for me in 2.43RC1 and RC2. On = material casts buff shadows, Off = material doesn’t cast buffered shadows. Am I missing something? If so I can report to the bugtracker. Please provide all relevant info: Blender version, OS, system specs, and specific steps on how to re-create the bug.

I just tested the blender bug tracker. It does NOT support anonymous bug reporting. I think this is a bug in itself and should be addressed. I’ll forward up the chain to the proper authorities.

cheers,

Bob

Are you sure your light(s) has(have) shadow buffers enabled? You’ll also need an object to receive the buffered shadows; the edge of a spotlight isn’t a shadow in this case.

That’s on purpose so we can track back bug report correctly. If we allowed anonymous reports, it’d be very hard to ask for precisions and details on incomplete bug reports.

Martin

Well, I just tried to submit a bug report only to be told in #blendercoders that I need a new account to be able to access the bugtracker…which Im not willing to do. What’s wrong with my current blender.org account?

Anyway, I have a bug, and can’t report it either…despite having an account.

tested shadowbuf button, it works just fine.
cvs version, compiled yesterday evening.

Oy, everyone! Especially CD38 : The shadows are rendered. But I need some of them not to be rendered. Like ghosts or something. To be detected on the camera but to not have shadows. And, here are the specs for my PC : 3014 MHz Pentium IV processor x64 ; 512 MB DIMM 66 MHz RAM ; PCI-E ASUS nVidia EN6600LE 256 MB VRAM ; GIGABYTE Motherboard model 8I945PL-G ; Windows XP Professional x86

That enough?
:stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, by the way, I have Blender 2.43 RC2! And it didn’t work on RC1 either, only on Blender 2.42a.

the ShadowBuff button is not useless and works just fine here…
“buffered shadows” is an alternative computation method with extensive parameters to fake the raytraced ones and save rendertime…
recently, this whole system was enhanced much to our benefit…
before assuming bugs exists, maybe you 'll appreciate spending some time at the wiki and releases notes to get some understanding of whats going on…
there are very well written docs and tutorials on the lighting subject to grasp the whole system and enjoy a much better experience.

What’s great about blender is that it offers extensive rendering options for advanced users to get the results they want expecting them to somewhat know how and what they are doing. What’s not so great is that it confuses some to believe it is broken or whatever, until they actually research the possibilities by themselves…

Allowing anonymous bug reporting would not be a good thing since it would generate tons of misleading reports showing a lack of commitment on the user part to actually learn the software… and ultimately force the fed up dev team to set an autoreply ‘RTFM’ to anonymous postings

No, dudes! You completely misunderstood me! I just want to turn off the shadow for an object!! That’s all. In the other versions it worked with the shadowbuf button! Plus, I am a kid, so don’t have me started on how I learnt on dial-up Blender!

if you want good control over lighting in your scene, you should take advantage of scene layers to distribute individual objects and use render passes for finer control over them.
this way, you can setup dedicated light rigs to affect only specific objects and also create shadow catcher objects with alpha for later compositing…
don’t expect a generic three point light rig to get the best out of your whole composition…
break it up and use all the tools available to fine tune the mood over each object of your scene.
it’s now easy to bring it all back together and works great to get the best out of your modelling effort…

This is the 3D scene, where you can see the settings at Links and Pipeline

And this is the result.
