i’ve got a problem with the blender version 2.5. the whole program works correctly, but not the game engine. everytime i start the game engine blender 2.5 crashes. this happened in 2.54 beta, 2.53 beta and in the 2.52 alpha. in version 2.49 the game engine works properly.
does anyone know what the reason could be? do I have to install something additionally to blender 2.5? I already have python installed.

Are you saying that the new 2.5x BGE crashes every time?
i don’t think that any additional stuffs are needed.
Are you on windows?
Edit:
Oh by the way I just realised that you are saying it runs fine in 2.49 but crashes in 2.5x. The python code in blender has changed significantly from 2.49 to 2.5x and that most 2.49 will not run in 2.5x without a major rewrite. If you use any python scripts in the BGE or anywhere else for that matter, you are going to run into difficulties.
End Edit.
I work from home and in the office and i use a file transfer program called dropbox. It is kind of similar to Ubunto One. Basically the dropbox applet monitors file changes and updates both my work and home computers when i save a file. I found that when I ran the game engine in a file that was located in the shared directory, the game engine would crash. Maybe the dropbox applet is getting under blenders feet while it is trying to run?
So that is my explanation of what I have observed in my case but what I would suggest is maybe try moving your blend file to another location away from any folders that are monitored and updated by dropbox or Ubuntu One or any other applet like that.
Good luck.
I’m on windows vista 32 bit
i’m not using any file managing programs like dropbox or something
yes the game engine crashes everytime if I press ‘P’ in blender 2.5 to start the game engine, although there are no python scripts or logic bricks. it crashes even if I dont change anything and have only the default cube! (like I already said: in 2.49b it works properly, but I actually want to use version 2.5 in the future)
Are there any error messages in the console (the second window that opens with Blender)?
No there are not any error messages, only the usual GE messages.
may it help if I install ubuntu as a second operating system und run blender using ubuntu linux?
Just a couple of quick comments:
-
Changing to Linux is always a good idea, but currently BGE has some texturing problems under Linux, (see my recent post on texturing, it seems to depend on the graphics chip?)
-
As veefwoar hinted at, there is probably some kind of conflict with another installed program. The thing to do is to start Vista in safe mode and run Blender. Then, (assuming it does not crash,) gradually restart the other programs that are normally running while checking at each stage for any conflict.

Since no other Vista users are reporting problems, there is something peculiar about your system and this may be a symptom of infection? Do a thorough scan for viruses, malware and other nasties with good quality virus and malware scanners. (I would recommend using both Avast anti-virus and Malware Bytes, they are free and nicely complement each other)
