Blender 2.5 Keyboard Layout

Hi,

I’ve been using Blender 2.5 for a couple of weeks now and I really like it but there’s something that still keeps constantly bothering me: default hot keys. I’m not saying that they’re horrific by any means but they could definately be better. After watching this excellent tutorial by Blender Cookie (http://www.blendercookie.com/2010/05/17/custom-hot-keys/) I started thinking of completely customizing the keyboard layout to make things a bit easier.

Unfortunately there’s always problems with customized hot keys and I was really excited when I found this particular page from Blender Wiki: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.5/Source/UI/Keyboard_Layouts. Oh my, the new keyboard layout looks really nice! But, I haven’t seen it anywhere. What am I missing here?

The page was last modified on February so I’d like to ask if this whole renovation of hot keys have been completely forgotten or will it actually be implemented at some point. Nevertheless, I can easily use Blender with current settings but there is always room for improvement.

I am used to the Blender hotkeys, because i’ve been using Blender 2.49 for modeling game models and rendering sprites.

However, i sure do hope the default controls will be redesigned for the greater good of future blender users.
Because some of those shortcuts don’t make sense (not anymore at least), some have bad workflow, some are missing and etc. The wiki page you posted says the truth and i agree with it. Though i don’t agree with a few shortcuts it suggests. And i don’t agree with “Easy migrating from 2.49”.

I think the Devs should create an official page where people would post keyboard layouts, and where a new official keyboard layout would be selected.

Laso, some other defaults too:
Turntable by default, you feelin me?
