Blender 2.5 not working well on my new powerfull Imac 27 inch !

I have the latest Imac with 8 go ram and ATI Radeon HD 4850 and 2.5 beta (2.55.0) and I’m having a lot of issues with the redrawing and the mouse is going crazy. I saw another post on the subject but it was not solved.

I tried going into each redraw window draw method : Full, overlap flip, overlap, tripple buffer, automatic. The problem remains.

Anyone has a bright idea of what to do, or do I have to just wait for a new release.

It’s a shame as I love the new 2.5 UI.

Tks everyone.

When those new iMacs were announced, with ATI cards, I was worried problems like yours would happen. Maybe get a system with an nVidia card?

Make sure you update your video drivers. ATI and AMD have a lot of incompatibility issues with Intel-based stuff.

Just thought of something: Go to Linux Ubuntu as your operating system. Can’t guarantee anything,

I’m on a similar system (or exactly the same – the same graphics card at any rate) and I am not having any of these issues. Have you tried the latest build from graphicall.org? If you want to upload a blend file that is particularly difficult to work, I’ll try it on my machine and let you know how it works.

Try a driver upgrade, try a few of the latest drivers, see if this solves the problem.

Another thing you could try is installing windows with bootcamp (or however it’s done the Mac nowadays) and try running Blender on windows, and/ or Linux, maybe it’s just an issue with the Mac ATI drivers.

Hi there,
I have the same iMac (or close to) than you have but do 99% or my screen interaction via a Wacom Bamboo Touch & Fun (or maybe the other way around?) tablet. I use blender only for modelling but don’t have any issues with the screen.

As a matter of fact, It’s been a yeas since i’ve switched and never had any blender issues …

Are you running the latest updates?
Did you install that mouse script which turns it into a 3 btn mouse? (i did)

Don’t install Linux on that computer … that would be weird!!

it’s ATI/AMD drivers … I have an older imac but with nvidia and has no problem whatsoever. but I’ve seen several friends on PCs with ati cards where the mouse cursor play tricks.

there’s gotta be and osx update you can install. because the mac pro’s has ati cards and I never seen graphic errors on them.

On a i7 27" imac with the same graphics card you have I don’t see what you are describing.

I’m on a 21.5" and ATI 4650…No problems whatsoever. I’m using a Logitech mouse, not the apple one (especially if you have utility or drivers to make wonders with the touch function).

Yes, try another mouse first, logitech on a macpro (2xeon nehalem, nvidia though)
Don’t listen to anyone suggesting other OSs, these are trolling as out of the subject and provoking.

I thought I had an open GL driver issue, but then I tried using my magic mouse and there was no re draw issue, expect that there is no middle button on the magic mouse, someone mentionned a scripted tp use the the magic mouse as a 3 button mouse, anyone has a link ?

Im using a wacom tablet intuos 4, and I have the mouse that goes with it and it is that mouse giving me trouble, I would prefer to use the wacom mouse as it has the 3 butttons and my magic mouse goes crazy when I turn on my second monitor, I tried to solve that problem since month with a lot of googling without result, that is why Im using exclusively my wacom mouse, but it’s not woking well with blender.

any other ideas ?

tks guys for all the responses !

Serge

one more thing, the wacom mouse works perfect with blender 2.49, it is just with 2.5 that it doesnt work.

Serge

Can you tell me where I can get the 3 btn mouse script for blender to use the magic mouse?

Blender 2.5x preferences/input/emulate 3buttons mouse. What script are you searching for?
Use an official build, not a graphicall build. if you have problems you should report it. What graphicall builds do isn’t my concern. Try them on your own risk.
