Blender 2.53 osx Sculpt brushes?

I just installed the v2.53 on my mac, unfortunately there is only
1 brush to choose from in the sculpt-brush palette.
Do I have to load them or something?

It does come loaded with the full brush settings. Are you using a custom default startup file. Try resetting to factory defaults from the file menu.

Wow, this was excactly the reason!
I loaded the factory settings and now all brushes are there…
