blender 2.56 beta crashes on startup

Hi, when I start 2.56 beta it shows a black screen for a while, then it crashes. I have previously used 2.49 without any problems.

Any ideas?

I use windows xp (32 bits)

Hi all,

I haven’t used blender in a couple of years, and I just recently downloaded the Blender 2.56a beta and apparently I’m having the same issue. I’m running a Windows 7 64-bit OS and Blender just crashes after creating the main window (just the window is created, no contents, no menu).

Console mentions it found the bundled python.

Is this known? Otherwise, can I do anything to further diagnose the problem?

Ok, it seems that the zip version works. Apparently there is some problem with the installer, at least on Windows 7 64-bit. I tried installing both to Program Files and to my personal user folder.

Problem fixed! I updated my ATI drivers (graphic card) and now its working perfectly.

I have the same problem. with blender 2.56 beta. My environment is XP sp2 on a sony vaio laptop with about 500 MByte RAM. No messages are seen. Can anyone help?
