i know where to find them but what are they. i know what builds are but why are they being reliesed on the official blender site?

I guess you got no idea what a release candidate is - or that might even be the question.

This is more of a support question. A release candidate is an official release for testing that’s put out for public consumption prior to the official full release. The builds from graphicall and what-not are technically unofficial builds.

i have a win 64bit. what is the difference between octet and zip. BTW this is recent blender news

The exe’s are installers whereas the zip files don’t need to be installed.
