I have some serious problem with Blender 2.65 boolean modifier.
I am trying to model glass jar with thread on top of it. Thread is not full spiral. What is my concept: cylinder is base object (jar), thread is modelled as separate object. I want to combine them so that one object is left - jar with threads.
When i use boolean modyfier - it is not working. At all. Well - it is working, but not like it should work.
What I did - I tested if boolean is working with other objects. Yes, it is. It is even working if I use cube and try to unify it with jar. So what is the problem?
When I apply this modifier - it still look like it sholudn’t. Applying other modifiers changes nothing.
Recalculate the face normals of both objects (select all vertices and Ctrl+N). You should also clear the objects scale as well to avoid any further difficulties (Ctrl+A / scale in object mode). You have also hidden vertices which you can unhide with Alt+H in edit mode
Actually boolean modifier is a little bit weird… yes. I would like to have result without those nasty triangles… of course, while we didn’t have bmesh, that was ok, but now we should just get clean mesh with nice intersections. This has to always be cleaned up.
@Richard Marklew Thank you for such detailed information. Yes, it was because of normals. It is important lesson for me. Often I had similiar problems, and such an easy solution as “recalculate normals” is not mentioned in tutorials as some kind of “last chance help”. It should be some kind of basic tip for noobs (like me).
